Robin Thicke & Pharrell lose Blurred Lines court case $7.3M to be given to the Gaye Famiy

Earlier today, a jury awarded the family of the late Marvin Gaye with $7.3 million dollars after finding Robin Thicke and Pharrell’s Blurred Lines track a direct creative infringement upon Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit Got to Give it Up. The Grammy-nominated song, that was allegedly written within an hour by Pharrell and recorded in a day by Thicke, has earned the musical duo close to $5 million bucks a pop since its release, but they can expect to give most of that back now.

According to Robin, who tried to pass the blame like a relay to Pharrell, he was “on-one” during recording:

“To be honest- I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio. So my recollection is when we made the song, I thought I wanted to be more involved than I actually was by the time, nine months later, it became a huge hit and I wanted credit. So I started kind of convincing myself that I was a little more part of it than I was and I because I didn’t want him I wanted some credit for this big hit. But the reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song.”
